SSC CGL Exam Pattern 

The SSC CGL comprises four stages during their recruitment process, which the candidates need to clear in order to make it through the selection process. The 4 stages are:

Stage 1: (Computer Based Exam)

Stage 2: Tier-II (Computer Based Exam)

Stage 3: (Descriptive Exam)

Stage 4: Data Entry Skill Test/Computer Proficiency Test/DV.

SSC CGL Syllabus Tier I

The first stage of SSC CGL Recruitment Exam is the Tier I. It will have an Online mode of examination and questions will be of objective type. The Sections under the SSC CGL Tier I are mentioned in the Table below. There are 4 sections in SSC CGL –

SSC CGL English Syllabus

Candidates’ ability to understand correct English, their basic comprehension and writing ability, etc. would be tested.(The questions in the components A,B & D will be of a level commensurate with the Essential Qualification prescribed for the post viz; graduation).

 

SSC CGL Tier-2 Syllabus

The second stage of SSC CGL Exam is the Tier II Level. It will also have an Online mode of examination same like Tier I and the questions asked will be of objective type. The Sections under the SSC CGL Tier II are mentioned in the Table below. There are 4 papers in SSC CGL Tier II-

  2. English Language & Comprehension
  3. Statistics (for Junior Statistics Officer)
  4. Finance & Economics (For AAO)

Also there are 2 parts in the Paper 4 of Tier II Syllabus.

The Arithmetic ability consists of topics similar to the quantitative aptitude of the Tier I level. Though the level of questions asked in SSC CGL tier 2 will be higher than tier I. The topics to be asked in this section includes:

CGL Tier II Syllabus Paper 2 – English Language & Comprehension

Questions in this components will be designed to test the candidate’s understanding and knowledge of English Language and will be based on error recognition, fill in the blanks (using verbs, preposition, articles etc), Vocabulary, Spellings, Grammar, Sentence Structure, Synonyms, Antonyms, Sentence Completion, Phrases and Idiomatic use of Words, etc. There will be a question on passages and comprehension of passages also. (The standard of the questions will be of 10+2 level).

SSC CGL Tier III Syllabus

The SSC CGL Syllabus Tier III consists of a descriptive Paper which includes Letter Writing and Application Writing. Letter writing includes both formal letter (letter to the editor, letter to the municipality, etc.) and informal letter (letter to a friend, etc.)

Data Entry Skill Test 8,000 (eight thousand) Key Depression per hour on Computer.
Skill Test will be conducted for a passage of about 2000 (two thousand) key depressions for a duration of 15 (fifteen) minutes
Qualifying Tax Assistant (CBIC/CBDT) OH candidates

PWD candidates who are eligible for scribes will be allowed additional compensatory time of 5 (five) minutes

  • Inspector (Central Excise), Inspector (Preventive Officer) & Inspector (Examiner) in CBIC.
